A More Progressive Approach to Legal Representation

September 2018 Archives

What is a second parent adoption?

When a same sex couple decides to have a child, it is often the case that one of the individuals will have a biological link to the child. When that child is born the child will be considered the child of that parent as the individual contributed to the child's genetic make-up. However, the other individual in the couple may not be considered a parent since they are not related biologically to the youth.

Allegations of abuse and their impact on child custody decisions

The goal of a Tennessee court that must establish a custodial plan for a family is to meet the needs of the child who will be affected by the court's decision. This can mean that the court must make many considerations to determine the best interests of the child. One important consideration that can be weighed in its evaluation is the presence of allegations or evidence of abuse in the parent-child relationship.
