A More Progressive Approach to Legal Representation

Domestic violence allegations come from different relationships

Prior posts on this Tennessee legal blog have discussed the importance of zealously defending yourself against domestic violence claims. A charge of domestic violence can disrupt a person's family life and force them into a difficult world of criminal allegations and hardship. While many people think that domestic violence matters only arise between individuals in romantic relationships, in Tennessee many different alleged domestic violence victims can make claims against their alleged aggressors.

A person may be accused of domestic violence by their spouse or romantic partner. That can be a person who they are currently dating and even individuals who they are no longer involved with can allege domestic violence against them. Former spouses can also claim domestic violence after their marriages have ended.

Additionally, other family members may allege domestic violence. A child through blood or adoption may claim that their parent has harmed them, and extended family members such as siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents can also bring domestic violence claims.

Individuals who share homes with others can allege domestic violence against their co-habitants. Under Tennessee law, it does not appear that these individuals need to be in relationships with their alleged aggressors, but only need to live in the same households.

The span of possible domestic violence accusers that a person may face could be wide. Domestic violence charges are damaging and serious legal matters. To protect one's family life and criminal record, consultation with an attorney may be beneficial for individuals who find themselves confronting claims of domestic violence in Tennessee.
